This is a striking species of Indonesian swallowtail. The thing that all Papilionidae (swallowtails) have in common is not the recognisable tales that many species have on their hind wings, but rather a trait that all their larvae share. Papilionid caterpillars have an ‘osmeterium’: an organ that looks like a forked tongue near their head that can emit a foul odour!

A Papilio lorquinianus butterfly specimen in a premium open grain wooden frame. The scientific and common names are printed on acid free card and the frame is sealed with silicone to keep the specimens safe from hungry museum beetles and other such pests. 

Care & Maintenance

Keep out of direct sunlight and high humidity. You can wipe the frames clean with a dry cloth but be careful; they are delicate!
